According to a statement released by Airbnb spokesman Ben Breit, the company announced that its subsidiary HotelTonight has cancelled all reservations booked for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. Airbnb and the hotel have cancelled all reservations at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. for President Barack Obama's inauguration this evening.
Airbnb's decision came after a letter from Hilton Hotel President and CEO Ralph Nader asking visitors to avoid Washington, DC during the inauguration following the historic siege of the Capitol. Airbnb said it continues to receive input from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as well as hotel staff, adding that the decision was made by reviewing all available hotel reservations for the first two days of President Barack Obama's inauguration.
A Hilton spokesman told Insider in an emailed statement: 'Hilton will remain open throughout the day to accommodate guests, employees and inauguration guests - related vendors traveling to and from Washington, DC.

As with previous hotels, Marriott will monitor the situation closely, have an operational security plan and maintain current reservations. At Foggy Bottom, reservations are still accepted, but we are still committed to making sure that the hotel cancels reservations and discourages visitors to the District. Clark said it's difficult to balance what we need to keep D.C. safe, and that cancellations, if the campaign is successful, will leave few options for those who stay temporarily in hotels.
Instead, hotels like the Hyatt and Mandarin Oriental could beef up security or restrict access to hotels to some guests. Donohoe Hospitality Services, which operates 12 hotels in the D.C. area, told CNN Business that people who attend events at the Capitol can stay at its hotels. The Hilton has most of its 270 rooms booked, but not all, according to its website.
While hotels are reluctant to close, some hotels, like the one that housed guests during the Washington riots, have expressed concern. Based on feedback from members, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, a union representing about 40 hotels, including the Trump International Hotel in Washington, has called on all hotels in the Greater Washington area to close or withdraw from Inauguration Day coverage.

Several hotel chains, including Hilton and Marriott, have increased security at the opening. Some hotels, including the Hyatt Regency Bethesda and Bethesdan Hotel, have announced that they will remain open the week of January 20-23 in anticipation of the visit of President-elect Donald Trump.
Some of the attendees at the Trump rally that preceded the Capitol siege will stay in local hotels during their time in the D.C. area, but most will stay at a local hotel for at least the duration of their stay. As with most inaugurations, most hotels, such as the Hyatt Regency Washington, are buzzing with activity, welcoming inauguration visitors and welcoming guests from around the country and around the world.
