St. Joseph School Reviews

I'd like to add to the review of the last parent on may 12, 2008. St. Joseph's does not accomodate children with unique learning styles. My daughter is very smart, but needs some simple accomodations for success (ie...quiet room for tests, more time for tests)but St Joes would not make these accomodations for her. I think they are trying to make this school an elite school, but I have a gifted student as well and he was bored. The principal is authoritative and does not listen to parents suggestions. The teachers have been great.

St. Joseph's is blessed with very dedicated and involved Teacher's. The student's are well instructed and given many opportunities to express themselves creatively. The school is well prepared to help the children who are having difficulty in the elementary grades, but does not offer any 'advanced curriculum' for student's who excel in a particular area. To be quite honest, my daughter reads well above her grade level and was bored with the work. I advised the school, but she kept getting the same level of instruction. The school community is a bit cliquish and not overly welcoming of new parents. Also, letters home from the Principal to the Parents can be condescending. The school does a good job, but with the exception of religious instruction I do not believe the education is any better then what the local school district offers.

St Joseph provides a comprehensive and rigorous education for its students. Children are taught the basics and much more: compassion for each other and the larger world. The staff is comprised of the most caring individuals you could ever want to meet. The school remains steadfastly on the cutting edge as far as curriculum, integrating technology, and pedagogy. Parent involvement is key and plentiful. Surely anyone desirous of well-rounded education for their child will consider a visit to St Joseph School in York!
