Down the hill from Georgetown is Washington Harbour, Georgetown's less historic waterfront scene. And what a scene it is: people watching, boats, brunch, where the trendier put on designer yoga pants to relax outside and watch the world bike by.
At Nick's Riverside Grille, considered the most chill of all dining options along the Harbour, you can also watch sports on the outdoor televisions if you prefer, but diners often enjoy the views of the Potomac, Kennedy Center, Key Bridge, Roosevelt Island and the Harbour fountains.
This American restaurant features a cozy dining room with window views of the Washington Harbour fountain or the river, and there's an outdoor bar with TV screens to while away the afternoon. Inside, the restaurant is painted a bright Mediterranean blue with funky artwork, and has stone walls and glass windows for a clean, inviting atmosphere. The space is small enough to rent out for a decent-sized, reasonably-priced private party, and the staff is particularly attentive to guests' needs.
Food is fairly decent, though the main reason to come to Nick's is for the views. Crabcakes are a winner at Nick's, followed by the burger and the jumbo shrimp. There's also pastas and steaks for dinner, or crab dip to start as an appetizer (a good beer-pairing while watching sports). You can also start with some steamed mussels or calamari. If you prefer a lighter salad, there's the mahi-mahi salad, the crispy iceberg wedge, tomato and mozzarella, or salmon rivera salad (among others). Nick's has a full bar, and the restaurant can be airy in summer or quite cozy in late autumn and winter.
HelloWashingtonDC Tip: Of course, happy hour is very appropriate for a waterfront place like Nick's. Between 3-7 every day there are drink specials of $3 beers and $4 Absolut and Malibu drinks. Grab a seat at the outdoor bar, meet some friends and watch the after-work crowd jog, bike or row by.
