Harry's Tap Room fits into the South Arlington/Pentagon City scene perfectly. Its laid-back, after-work beers and festive weekend brunches makes it a perfect setting for the young, yuppie neighborhood, along with its focus on organic food. And like most of Arlington, Harry's Tap Room is clean, bright and modern, with earth-tones and décor.
Its newness is almost sterile and chain-like, kind of like some parts of Arlington. However, the cleanliness is on purpose: despite its name as the Tap Room, which conjures images of dark, dank and old cellars with beers in barrels, this establishment surprises you with its bright, contemporary look and delicious dishes served fresh out of the farm.
With three locations – one in Clarendon, one at the Fashion Center in Pentagon City, and one at Dulles Airport – Harry's Tap Room focuses on delivering hormone-free, farm-fresh, organic and free-ranging products from its local farms in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Brunch is incredibly popular, allowing diners to relax and munch slowly through a stack of fluffy pancakes with pure maple syrup or crabcake Benedict. The wild mushroom omelette is another winner, with shitake, oyster and portabella mushrooms in one. For dinner, the roasted red pepper crab soup is a nice twist to the traditional bisque, and its selection of seafood is prepared nicely, particularly the mussels. For non-seafoodies and vegetarians, there are plenty of other options. Harry's also specializes in lesser-known wines and takes care to pair them with the food; ask your waiter for recommendations.
Harry's may be a relaxed and sophisticated space, but it is open to all groups – [quieter] families, couples, friends, coworkers, parties, the works. There's a full kids menu, so you are welcome to bring your little ones, which might work better during daylight hours. Private functions are also an option, if you would like to reserve a floor or the entire restaurant.
HelloMetro Tip: It's not a visit to Harry's Tap Room without trying one of its beers (mostly microbrews, including Harry's own Tap Room Ale), domestic wines, or vast selection of American and Irish whiskeys and scotch. Stop by during happy hour, or whenever your mind needs a refreshment, and enjoy a meal at the bar as well.
