Location:
Postal code 20007, United States
Washington, District of Columbia 20007
Starts at: 8:00 AM
This is not an all day event
Description:
RSVP Date: April 11th, 2008. Make sure you call SKYDIVE ORANGE and leave your deposit before you RSVP yes! UPDATE: If we don't get atleast 25 people, there will NOT be a discount!!!! so bring your friends... This is the break down: 25 people and up: $205 35 people and up: $200 50 people: $190 So roller coasters just aren't any fun anymore. That make-shift ramp you used to jump your bike off of just doesn't excite you like it used to when you were a kid, and driving on the beltway only slightly raises your blood pressure. You need an adventure. You need long, terrifying plunges to the ground at 120 miles per hour. You need to go skydiving! So why not come with us, your favorite meet-up group? We've gotten a great deal at Skydive Orange in Orange VA, which is about 1.5 hours south of DC. Instead of the normal $255 you can jump for just $190! That's $65 off (it's $200 if you pay with a credit card). So, what's it like? We'll be doing tandem jumps. This is the most common type of first time jumping. You are strapped onto the jumpmaster (an instructor with thousands of jumps under his/her belt) and he/she controls the jump from exit to landing. You're along for the ride, so all you have to do is enjoy the view and try not to wet your pants (it'd suck for the jumpmaster, but they'll dry on the way down). This method requires little preparation time - a 10 minute video, 20 minutes of ground training, and some forms to sign. You wear a harness that is attached to the jumpmaster's parachute system. The two of you, attached at the shoulders and hips, leave the plane together and fall for about 60 seconds from 13,500 feet before the jumpmaster (or you) pulls the chute at about 4,000 feet. From there, the ride to the ground lasts about 5 minutes and it's a beautiful view of rural VA in the spring. I know you are asking "What happens if the parachute fails?" You do have a second chance. By law, all parachute rigs must be made with a main chute and a reserve chute that can be opened if the main chute is damaged, twisted, or simply doesn't come out. The FAA also requires that the reserve chute must be inspected and repacked every 120 days by an FAA-rated parachute rigger, even if it hasn't been used during that time. Plus, there is a back-up to the back-up, an automatic activation device that will deploy the reserve if for some reason neither you nor your instructor can open the reserve. Skydive Orange has a great FAQ for first time jumpers. Skydive Orange will need a $50 deposit by April 11th for each person planning to jump. The remainder can be paid on May 11th (balance in Cash or Visa /MasterCard /Amex /Discover). Each person must be at least 18 years old, able to read, write understand English, be in reasonably good physical and mental condition, and be under 220 lbs. You can call Skydive Orange between 9 AM - 9 PM Monday - Friday (877) 348-3759 with a credit card number to schedule. Let them know when you schedule if you want video ($100) or stills ($100) or both ($125). On May 11th, be sure to bring a picture ID with DOB like a driver's license, and arrive on time at 8am. I want to stress that skydiving is WEATHER DEPENDANT! If the winds are too high, it's raining or the clouds are below 10,000 ft, we won't jump. It's for your safety. So plan on spending the whole day! If we can't jump for weather reasons, you can reschedule for anytime you want, but there are NO REFUNDS!
