There's nothing like a low-key evening of games and drinks with friends and acquaintanances, both of which can be accomplished at Buffalo Billiards, Dupont Circle's spacious bunion of a bar. People love to groan about Buffalo Billiards because of its non-swank status, but they continue to pour into its doors every night because of its roomy atmosphere and guaranteed enjoyment.
Located right by the south metro entrance, Buffalo Billiards is on the “garden” level (i.e., basement), with pool tables (18 specifically), shuffleboard, foosball, skeeball, and dartboards, plus three bars. It is the sports fan's ultimate paradise, with 40 HDTVs, though you can always request to watch the congressional vote on C-SPAN; after all, this is Washington.
Dress is quite casual, which does not suit those who like to get gussied up for a night on the town, but you'll find a fair share of guys in ties coming straight from the office to unwind after a long day of work. The bar is also a popular place for networking and alumni events, with private rooms and sections available. The entire place fits 500 people, and the patio is especially popular during summer, so there's room for everyone if you don't care to wait in line to get into some other bar in Dupont.
The menu is a typical bar menu: burgers, fries, wings and sliders, but the real catch is getting these bites at happy hour prices. Monday through Thursday bring excellent deals, especially if you're a student. Choose from 25-cent wings to dollar sliders. Drinks are also on special as well. Wednesdays are trivia night, and Thursdays are skeeball league evenings.
HelloWashingtonDC Tip: Other special events take place randomly, depending on special sports nights. These occasions might include a cover charge to watch a boxing or wrestling fight. There might be a wait for a pool table, too, so call ahead.
